Curtis Smith
Computing History
I started out in computer programming when I purchased my first programmable calculator, an HP‑55. From there, I graduated into programming my first microprocessor, a Z‑80, learning assembly language. My first supercomputer experience came from a small job with the Purdue department of Agriculture fixing a Fortran program written on punch cards, feeding the cards into a CDC‑6600 computer system.
Computing Future
Currently, I work with the Engineering Computer Network at Purdue University to provide infrastructure services. I set-up, maintain, and improve such services as DNS, database and file servers, e-mail and web services.
Look toward the future, as more and more computing and programming being done with smartphones and in the cloud, I'm working on moving what is traditionally done on desktop computers to ubiquitous access of web applications and phone apps.

I currently live in Lafayette with my husband Curtis and our two cats, Basil (named after Basil Fawlty) and Æon (named after Æon Flux). I like to travel the country and the world — most recently taking a trip to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I also enjoy swimming and bicycling, and have an impressive comic book and National Lampoon magazine collection.
